pocket garden tour in portsmouth

Lauren K. and I toured the pocket gardens Friday evening. A wonderful launch for summer vacation! Thanks to the owners who shared the beauty of their gardens. I love Portsmouth in any season, but especially in summer. Here are just a few reasons why…

this morning

Shortly after arriving at work this morning I noticed this beautiful visitor.

mothers day at fort stark

I love this spot. The fort's old concrete walls are oozing lime and going through all sorts of slow transformations.

Waves are constantly tumbling stones and shells and glass.

a walk in the woods

On Saturday I took a little hike on some conservation land in Barrington.

mellow goats in massachusetts

I had the pleasure of going to a family event hosted by the humans who know these lovely Pygora goats best.  The humans are lovely and mellow, too.

hike at sagamore creek

Ron and I took a hike in Portsmouth along Sagamore Creek. We found a good place to launch our kayaks when the weather gets a bit warmer. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring my camera. This is a closeup of a small bit of driftwood I brought home.

hiking in blueberry fields

It was a perfect morning for hiking to the blueberry fields of Little Blue Job Mountain. Visibility was good, especially to the north—we could see Mount Washington. Massive stone walls run through the fields. They are a peculiar construction with the rocks laid diagonally.

April 1 seemed like a good date to start a new nature journal. I made a sketch of a bit of a stone wall. I misspelled "diagonally" in my journal. You can see the drawing and the misspelling on my drawing page.

a saturday morning…

My favorite place to spend time in Dover, after One Washington Street, is Adelle's Coffeehouse on Hale Street. It's a short walk from the studio. It has good coffee (and tea), good energy, and gluten-free bagels among its many treats.

Ah…Saturday!

a trip to boston

Ron and I went to Boston on Monday, February 27. This picture was taken in the courtyard at the Boston Public Library on Boylston Street. For some amazing pictures made at this location, check out Ron's blog.

shell dreams

On a cold, windy winter day I dream of sifting through smooth pebbles and battered shells on the beach.

orange and sunshine

Despite the onset of a cold—my first in a long time—I enjoyed meeting Nathalie at the studio this morning and then walking to Adelle's with her for coffee. Such a treat to spend some time with my good friend.

By the time I got home Ron had done the grocery shopping. So I savored this lovely orange and imagined the vitamin C strengthening my immune system. I plan on enjoying my long weekend, cold or no cold!

at the old exeter town hall

A sunny windowsill and gauzy curtains attracted my attention on this cold day. We were in Exeter for the end of the NHSPA photography show. The drop-off date of the show was on my birthday, and the pick-up date was on Ron's. Happy birthday, Ron!

my drawing page

After almost a month of drawing, I have decided to make a separate drawing blog called my drawing page. Please check it out by clicking the link in this post or the link for it in the sidebar area called LITTLE GREEN MARBLE, CONTINUED.

Instead of posting daily, I will probably post weekly—with the intention that I will continue to draw daily. Soon I hope to create a new web location called color works. Stay tuned!

shells and bones

I photographed this stack of shells and bones on the windowsill on the 4th floor landing, just outside my studio.
